Gracie Cooper is a Jack of all trades and master of none. She’s been hopping around Europe and is now in Bounty Bay to regroup, attend her brother’s wedding, and try to work off her college debt. Her carefree lifestyle is about to get a little complicated.
Doctor Owen Bennett lives a structured life, where order and tidiness are paramount. With his mother’s suddenly needing to recuperate from a triple bypass, he finds himself the temporarily the guardian of his orphaned nieces and nephew. His life is an unorganized mess. As he’s floundering to find balance between work and guardianship responsibilities, he latches onto the calmest object in his turbulent waters. It just so happens to be free-spirited Gracie.
Owen, desperate to find someone to look after his charges, makes Gracie an offer she can’t refuse. Gracie, needing the money to pay off her debt, takes advantage of an opportunity of a lifetime. Living in the same house, their personalities constantly butt heads. As time passes, and sparks fly, they learn to respect each other and appreciate their difference. The end of the school term approaches and Owen’s mother is on the mend. Will Owen move past the embarrassment of his upbringing and fear of loss to embrace what he’s been missing? Can Gracie confront her demons and fight for what she needs?
This third novel in the Far North Series was sweet and endearing. I also loved the references to Harry Potter, a series I’ve also read. I appreciate that Tracey Alvarez writes stories which I can relate. Though her stories take place in another country, I can always relate to her characters. They are written so realistically that you are pulled into their lives and you become invested in what happens to them. She also has a wicked sense of humor. I always find myself laughing out loud as I’m reading.
This is the first Tracey Alvarez novel I've read and it won't be my last! This novel is the third in the series and I can't wait to go back and read the first two. It's a stand alone novel with no cliffhanger.
Gracie has spent the past few years running. Running away from her dad's scrutiny and disappointment, past image issues and an eating disorder. All that changes when Gracie is almost killed in a terrorist bombing. Coming back home, Gracie doesn't know where to turn. Her dad wants her to go back to college so that she can take a junior position at his firm. Gracie knows she'll never be happy following in the family business, so Gracie decides to stay with her brother until she finds a job and decides what to do with her life. On her way to her brother's she finds two "runaways". Seeing that William is injured, Gracie takes the kiddos to their Uncle--Dr. "O" Owen.
Owen is exasperated with his nieces and nephew. The current nanny has given notice and he's desperate. After meeting Gracie at the hospital and seeing how good she is with the kids, begs her to be his new nanny. In need of a job, Gracie accepts. Just being around the family a few days, Gracie realizes that they are hurting. With the loss of their parents, the kids are sent to live with Owen's parents. When Owen's mom falls ill and has to have heart surgery, the kids are forced to live with workaholic Owen. Knowing his sister wanted to home-school her kids, Owen struggles to find time to work and teach them. So he hires Gracie as a nanny, but comes to realize she's so much more. He just doesn't want to admit it. Gracie gets his nephew and nieces to smile. She even gets him to relax and start enjoying life again. When she overhears parts of a conversation where he says hurtful things, she runs. Will Owen be able to convince Gracie to give him a chance at HEA?
I truly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it! Although it's sad at times, it's not heartbreaking. Loved it!
What an amazing story of love, strength and growth for all the main characters! This was my first Tracey Alvarez book, but it will not be my last!! she's an amazing writer who can definitely tell a story full of emotion, I bawled my eyes out, laughed, literally giggled and cried more happy and not only sad but heartbreaking tears. What an amazing journey!
After yet another traumatic family event, Owen assumes custody of his two nieces and nephew while his mother recovers after a triple bypass surgery, because there is no one else to do it. The three of them are orphans after their parents died while on vacation without the kids. Their grandparents, Owen's parents are their legal guardians now. The kids are home schooled per their mothers request. Owen doesn't know how he's gonna get through 2 and a half months with 3 kids when all his life is about working as an ED Dr at the Bounty Bay hospital and takes as many shifts as he can grab ahold of, it's his whole life! Now he's totally at a loss of what to do with the kids since his elderly neighbor had quit on him and told him he has until Monday to find someone else to care for the children. She also tells him what he really needs to find is a nice girl and settle down, so that way he'd have a contingency plan. He doesn't have time for a girlfriend right now.
Grace returns home to New Zealand after surviving a suicide bombers attacked on a London nightclub six blocks from where she worked. But after arriving home it's her father picking her up instead of her brother because her brothers boys came down with chicken pox. She's instantly reminded of why she was running away from family issues at home and traveling around Europe. After one night she's over done with dealing with her father and calls her soon to be sister-in-law Savannah who told her where the spare key to her VW Beetle was and told her to get her butt driving north to where they live in magical Bounty Bay. So she does, but before arriving at their house she stops in town for an ice cream cone and find two little kids who ran away from their "meanie babysitter". One of the kids now had a hurt arm that needs to be looked at by a doctor. The kids tell her their uncle is a doctor and is at work, so she takes them there because they refuse to tell her where they live and she really doesn't want to call the police. At the hospital, she meets the oh so gorgeous Dr O-for-Awesome, who asks her if she'd consider watching the kids, even temporarily because he had no idea what to do.
To find out what happens with the kids and Gracie, Gracie and Owen, and the changes that are in store you'll have to read TEACH YOUR HEART, but oh my it'll be worth your time. Although this is book 3 of the Far North series, it could be read as a standalone novel as well. I do plan to go read the first two books in the series though. Book 1: Hide Your Heart (Lauren & Nate) and Book 2: Know Your Heart (Savannah & Glen), and i look forward to reading Book 4: Mend Your Heart (Natalie & Isaac) and Break Your Heart (Vanessa & Sam) when they're available in 2017 too. This book uses British/UK spellings and references. I received this ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older!
