Charlaine’s life changed in an instant.
(And yes—the entire 8-book Power Ascending series is complete and ready to binge.)
Forced to leave everything she knew behind, she finds herself starting over as a Temple Knight in a distant realm. But even here, far from home, the past refuses to stay buried.
Hoping to build a new life, she instead finds her reputation in ruins the moment her past catches up with her. Branded a troublemaker, Charlaine struggles to find her footing—until raiders strike the coast and her true mettle begins to show.
Sensing there’s more behind the attacks than anyone realizes, she sets a quiet plan in motion—one that uncovers a far greater threat waiting in the shadows.
With the support of her new sisters-in-arms, she leads them in a desperate attempt to counter a rising power that could destroy everything she has left.
Journey with Charlaine deShandria as she steps into a destiny she never sought in this action-packed, intrigue-filled beginning to the Power Ascending series.

Customer Reviews
Great story!
This is an impressive piece of world building, with realistic place settings, complex characters that you grow to love, and amazing true-to-life action scenes! It is all tied together with an amazing plot that kept me rushing through the book to see how it all ended!
Poor predictable plotting, flat characters
Either Mr. Bennet believes that all the lord’s problems could be solved by a massive authoritarian, hierarchical church (tried that. Europe tore itself apart for 1500 years) or he writes comic books where the good guys predictably win. There’s almost no character development. There were so many coincidents that saved the protagonist that by the denouement there was zero surprise on how it would come out. Boring! Every character used the same speaking style, same word choices, even though they were supposed to be from different backgrounds. Then the naming as entirely hodgepodge. Italianate names mixed with Spanish, Celtic, lord of the rings elves. Care must be taken to create some separation between cultures and subcultures. This writer needs to join a writers group and get some feedback in the basics of world building.
Enjoyed
I have read several books from this author and have thoroughly enjoyed them all; this book is no exception.
From the beginning to the end I found that the character development is well established, as is the storyline.
My only complaint is that this book ends way to soon and I actually felt a sense of regret having read the last page. Oh well, just gives me an excuse to get the following books in the series 😁
