** Originally published in 2008, Tempt Me with Darkness has been expanded and re-edited. I’ve added over 15,000 new words and two completely new scenes, as well as embedded lots of Easter eggs. I’ve also rewritten everything in first person, present tense and made tweaks to the storytelling for a deeper, richer experience. As the series progresses, I’ll be diverging the overall plot in some notable spots, so this version of the series will be different.

It’s a Wonderful world!
This is the first book in the Doomsday Brethren series, and it is just so wonderful to have Marrok back in the world. This spellbinding book blends so much from fantasy, fated mates, magic and more. Marrok is a knight of King Arthur’s court who has been cursed with immortality. All he seeks is to remove his curse which he believes is tied to the Doomsday Diary. Olivia is a transplant to England who is looking to sell art in her store when she is approached with news of Marrok, a very talented creator of artifacts that may be useful to Olivia. When Marrok lays eyes on Olivia, he believes that she is the witch who trapped him all those years ago. Olivia believes Marrok to be a bit daft, but she is pulled towards him. What follows is an all-encompassing, mesmerizing read with drama, passion and a few secondary characters that enhance the plot and move the story forward. Ms. Black’s writing style flows so beautifully that one just sinks into the enveloping magic so that one feels transported into the pages. A wonderful melding of past and present and for those who enjoy angst, spice and a little danger thrown in. Please check trigger warnings. I recommend this book and cannot wait for what the author has coming.
Magic, Mayhem, and Love
TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS is the first book in the Doomsday Brethren series by author Shayla Black. Paranormal romance is one of my favorite genres, and this world also has Arthurian legend tied in, so I was very excited to jump in and meet Marrok, Olivia, and the rest of the cast.
TEMPT ME WITH DARKNESS is a long book, and while that's not a bad thing, you'll want to prepare yourself to settle in for the ride. I did enjoy the storyline, although it took me a bit of time to get into it. Once things were rolling along, and the action picked up, I was invested in seeing just how things would play out for everyone involved, because the backstory was quite a kerfuffle.
When an author is stepping out into a different part of the book world than their norm, it can take some time to find the groove. I feel like this book was coming into its own by the end, and will be interested to see where Shayla takes everyone in future books. ❤️
The Doomsday Brethren Are Back!
Tempt Me With Darkness by Shayla Black is the first book in a wonderful paranormal romance series, Doomsday Brethren. The author has revised the series to make it current, but the essence of the book is unchanged from its’ original publication in 2008. The overarching storyline for the series is that a very evil Wizard has broken free from some sort of magical binding and a group of Wizards and Witches band together to fight him. This particular book focuses on the love story of Marrok and Olivia Grey. Marrok was a former Knight of the Roundtable, who was cursed fifteen centuries before by Morganna LeFay. His only goal in life was to break his curse so that he could finally die. That all started to change when he met Olivia, who unbeknown to her was an untransitioned witch, who was a direct descendant of Morganna. Despite some serious trust issues for both of them and some very bad behavior on Marrok’s part, the two were inextricably drawn to each other. Upon meeting, Marrok was convinced that Olivia was actually Morganna, and it took time for him to realize his mistake. They completed a magical mating bond which tied them together and had to deal with the consequences. If you love paranormal romance and authors such as JR Ward or Larissa Ione, you should read this book to find out whether Marrok and Olivia can learn to trust each other and break Marrok’s curse. Find out what the Doomsday Brethren must face to save the world from this evil wizard who is bent on destruction and wants to use Olivia’s power to accomplish that goal. I adored this book both times I have read it. I did find it frustrating that the couple’s lack of communication caused them so much unnecessary anxiety, but that was the cross that this pair had to bear. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and am excited that the author will complete the series this time!
