Publisher Description

When it comes to leadership, nothing is more important than motivation. Although that may seem obvious, that does not make it easy. Indeed, motivation is challenging in any context and especially when it comes to schools.

That’s because of the populations and goals addressed by schools: that everyone might learn. One doesn’t get much more diverse or ambitious than that. So how do we make that happen? By encouraging, exploring, instructing, modeling, observing, remembering, practicing, and doing. Such are the tasks of motivational leadership.

1. Encouraging. Educators at all levels believe whole heartedly that everyone can grow. Great evocative coaches encourage educators to make it so.

2. Exploring. To make that happen, educational leaders evoke the very best from people by exploring what they have to offer.

3. Instructing. To make it so, people have to know how to make it so. It matters not the realm. Great coaches are able to not only evoke but to also instruct along the way.

4. Modeling. There are many ways to instruct. To really evoke a person’s greatness it’s not enough to instruct; we must also demonstrate, engage, and model of effectiveness.

5. Observing. Coaches in site-based settings have the unique opportunity to observe their coachees at work. This sets the scene for especially dynamic coaching conversations.

6. Remembering. Coaching conversations become really evocative when people remember their practices. What else is there to talk about? The key lies in how to talk.

7. Practicing. Site-based coaching has the advantage of being able to practice the approaches planned out in coaching sessions and to celebrate together the positive results.

8. Doing. Having practiced the strategies mapped out in coaching sessions, teachers and school leaders can incorporate them into their work on a regular basis.

Although it uses some different language and categories, this eBook makes it clear as to how all this looks and happens. Want to take your own leadership and work to that level of excellence? Read on! Take it seriously. And make it so.
