Twenty-three years after the Red Eye plague nearly erased humanity, Earth is rebuilding. Trey Ocean is President of the United States of Earth (USE). Humans, the hybrid HumanSo, and the alien aquatic Sa share a strained, hard-won peace. For the first time in a generation, humanity dares to hope.

Millions of Sa refugees, fleeing conquered worlds, race toward their last bastion of safety: planet Earth. They were followed.

The resource-hungry Tuurbaa, the predators the Sa call Chaos Beings, have already conquered the three Sa homeworlds. Bred for conquest, Tuurbaa scout leader Blaatoo craves martial glory, ascension in the hive, and a planet full of prey. Blaatoo launches a reconnaissance in force, plunging the recovering human cities of Annapolis and Baltimore into darkness.
