Great Novella!
Never having been a big fan of novellas, I went ahead and bought this prequel to the Baine Chronicles as I really enjoy them. What a great glimpse of Sunaya’s beginnings! I loved how she isn’t quite as self-assured as she is now and a little more hot-headed, as most people are different when they are younger. The novella also shows us how some of the main characters in the series met Sunaya and became a part of her circle of friends. I think this gives all of them a little more depth and helps to understand them a little bit more. The story was great, as well, and is well-written as all of Ms. Walt’s books generally are. The end really surprised me, making me both sad and happy with the way things turned out. How can I be both? You’ll have to read the novella to find out! I am really looking forward to more novellas to see the origins of the friendships that came to be. If you are a fan of the series, you really need to pick this up because, as I already said, I believe this novella adds a tiny bit more depth the characters in it. If you haven’t tried the series yet, now is a good time. Highly recommend!
