Max Remus couldn't care less about finding his mate-unlike the rest of his fate-obsessed pack. He totally prefers hanging with his bestie, eating his dad's steak sandwiches, and drawing in his trusty sketchbook.

But all that is about to change at the Blue Moon Festival-a summer camp where Elite Pack wolves go to find their mates. The festival is a rite of passage for every teen werewolf, and this year's festival will be one to howl home about. The alpha's son, Jasper Apollo, is attending for the first time.

When Max finds himself inexplicably linked with the exceptionally handsome but totally jerk-faced heir, he's forced to grapple with the unexpected feelings clawing at his soul.

If Max rejects his destiny, will fate's bite be worse than its bark?

It was good

The book started off pretty slow and the rejections from Jasper to Max were quite aggravating. Every time max tried to get close to Jasper he was rejected!

boy oh boy was this terrible

i read this book solely for the bit of having read it. i went into it with the lowest expectations one can possibly have when starting a book. yet, somehow, it still managed to disappoint me.

oh boy where do i even begin. every single character in this book was written like a twelve year old and not a single one of them had any substantial depth. i don’t care about a single person in this book, which is an incredibly difficult thing to accomplish, especially because i would consider myself relatively easy to please. max is a ten year old boy trapped in the body of a teenager who says things like “cool as a cucumber” and “freaking the fudge out” and jasper is just the most stereotypical, underdeveloped “bad boy” love interest who is just unnecessarily and horribly mean to max for really no reason. every single background character was the same character with different names, different descriptions, and the tiniest difference in dialogue. genuinely not a single character is developed in this book. no one has any depth. it’s seriously so bad that it becomes laughable.

the romance was…something. as i mentioned, jasper is just being a genuine bully to max for most of the book and yet max clings to him the second he finds out they’re mates. that in itself is something that i really don’t understand because why did max go from “hating” jasper (if you can even call it that) to being so desperate to be with him the second some weird mystical moon magic told him that they belonged together. like come on max stand up and have some goddamn self worth. even outside of that, these characters just don’t have any chemistry. i do not believe for a second that these characters, who were specifically written to be together, would ever actually enjoy being together. it was just not a well written romance, which is kind of insane considering that this is first and foremost a romance book.

usually, everything that i have mentioned is something that i can overlook for a 2.5 or, dare i say, 3 star read if the plot is interesting enough for me. this plot was so laughably bad that it somehow bumped this from a 1 to a 2 star book for me. what do you mean they’re sending every wolf over the age of 16 to what is essentially a sex camp like what are we doing. and you can’t even argue that that’s not the point of the camp because it’s literally implied like five times in this book alone that when you find your mate you can expect your hormones to make you both go goddamn crazy. like what are we doing im so serious. aside from that, can we discuss the villain of this book for a second because why are they so cookie cutter motives, cookie cutter villain, cookie cutter defeat. like i understand that there are only so many things that can motivate a villain to do what they want to do, especially regarding the context of the plot, but i feel like it could’ve been done so much better than it was. i can’t even really complain about that part of the book though because it was the most interesting thing that happened in all 315 pages.

i feel like there’s more that i could complain about but i finished this book weeks ago and i’ve blocked it out of my mind to the best of my abilities. it just wasn’t good. i knew that it wouldn’t be and yet, somehow, i was still shocked. i understand that it’s a debut and i also understand that my perspective of this book and, therefore, my review could be skewed because of the fact that i went into this knowing that i hate omegaverse books and that i was going to dislike almost everything about this, but it still wasn’t good. it was quite awful.

it gets two stars from me because there were a lot of parts in which it was so terrible that i could just laugh. even then, however, i think that two stars is very generous.

Really Makes You Wonder…..

The story was really gripping and it didn’t always go the way you think at first. I have to say, I didn’t suspect Elenor as the bad guy and the way Jasper went above and beyond to reject Max is still upsetting. In the end Jasper came to terms with Max being his mate, he is still afraid to see it through. I understand he wants to protect Max but there seems to be more behind the reason. Can’t wait for the next book.
