If Gabby King's secret is made public, it could destroy her boyfriend, Richard Wright's, political campaign to be the next governor of Texas. The citizens of Texas may forgive a candidate for fathering a child out of wedlock, but learning of a son resulting from an affair with a married woman invites a scandal.

            Wayne King, Gabby's father, the influential oil baron, and cattle rancher, encourages his daughter to accept his plan to get her and Wright into the governor's mansion. However, Richard's campaign manager, Amanda Jason, wants Wright and the title of Texas's first lady and will stop at nothing to take Gabby's place.
