The Angel of Solano

West Berlin 1962 – A veteran of the Italian campaign in 1944 and now an intelligence analyst working for an obscure department within MI6, Harry Male's job is to separate fact from fiction; truth from lies. But Harry is a tortured, damaged, chain-smoking automaton with chronic depression, persistent anxiety, crushing self-doubt and multiple inadequacies, real and imagined. For eighteen years, he has endured a recurring nightmare, haunted by something terrible that happened when, as a twenty-four year old Lieutenant, he went to the aid of an Italian family in desperate need.

When high-ranking East German defector Klaus Bergmann escapes to the West, it sets in motion a chain of events that spiral rapidly out of Harry's control forcing him finally to face his trauma and seek out his own truth.
