A musical portfolio of one of Metal’s most influential rocker's
This review was initially a reaction to the author. It appears to be authored not by Hetfield himself, but Arthur Rotfeld. The same holds true for the similar “The Art of Kirk Hammet” (Not yet available on iBooks). As for the book itself, it is an intimate look at the Rhythm guitarist/Singer/Songwriter of Metallica. James' vast knowledge of his craft shows through in every song, and this book allows the reader to view his progression into an accomplished musician through its' superior chronology and presentation. This is not a biography, but an overview of James’ career through his own words as well as his compositions. It is also not intended to sensationalize its’ subject, content to allow its’ reader to draw their own conclusions from James’ own insights and work. It simply is, in a sense, a portfolio of a proficient composer/guitarist/vocalist. “The Art of James Hetfield” is intended for adept musicians (Namely guitarists with knowlede of intricate tablature), but whether the reader is a Metallica fan or not… this title offers an inside look into a man who has made history by creating (Or co-creating in some cases) many of Metal’s most renowned songs.
