Publisher Description

On August 6 and 9, 1945, in the last significant blows of World War II, American B-29 bombers dropped atomic warheads on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Within a week, the Japanese surrendered. The war was over, but the Atomic Age was just beginning. Here, from journalist and historian Michael Blow, is the dramatic story of America's Manhattan Project, which produced the world's first atomic weapons.

THE ATOM BOMB

I recently toured The B Reactor at the Hanford Nuclear Site in southeastern WA. I've also been to Los Alamos. This book greatly increased my understanding of that era and my understanding of what I saw and heard on these tours. What these scientists, and thousands of workers, accomplished in such a short time is almost unbelievable. On the 70th anniversary of the dawn of the Atomic Age, that shaped the lives of billions, this book is essential reading.
