Publisher Description
This fascinating story follows the life of young biracial man in early twentieth century America. He must confront not only the racism of the society around him, but also his own racial demons. As the novel progresses, the young man finds himself faced with the dilemma of embracing his blackness and continuing on a brilliant career as a musician, or "passing" as a white man and earning a place of mediocrity within white society.
Customer Reviews
Good, but slow
I had to read this book for an English class, and I would recommend this book as a must read for every person. All aspects of the "race question" relevant in that time and now are addressed in full vigor. It's an interesting walk through a mixed mans life as he teaches us about race relations through his success, failure, happinesses, and trials.
