Lies as usual.
Antony Beevor should not attempt to write history on subjects of which he knows nothing.
He is totally sympathetic to Stalin’s Republican forces in Spain and downplays all the atrocities committed by the communist side during the civil war—-naturally.
He evinces not the foggiest notion of the Catholic Church or Franco who was only trying to save Spain from atheism and Freemasonry.
To read this nonsense you would think some washerwoman was asked to write this book and you could hardly do worse. But typical of this “historian” anyone on the Marxist side can do no wrong (or it is explained away as if the victims of the communist tortures and murders deserved it anyway) and those in Spain who simply did want atheist thugs butchering Catholics can do no right.
Franco was a hero whose mission was to save Spain from any antichristian enemies whether from Marxists like Stalin or clueless British “historians”.
