Interesting….but uneven
A vast collection of battles, many of which were supposedly the most notable in all history. I had never heard of many of the smaller actions, so this was useful; but the nationalistic slant is obvious: a startling number of the most notable battles occurred in the UK, for example, and are discussed at length. Those that occurred in, say, North America, not so much: for example, Gettysburg received an in-depth study of about 24 words, Vicksburg even less. The book is still worth reading, but even-handed it is not.
