The Belton Estate

Anthony Throllope (1815-1882) was an English writer, one of the most influential writers of the Victorian Era. In his works he portrayed the most sufficient problems of his time: political, social and family issues. The author tended to follow the traditions of English humorous writers and depicted the day-to-day life of the contemporary English clergy which was a sufficient part of the English society.

'The Belton Estate' is a novel first published in 1865. The central figure of the novel is Clara Amerdroz, a young pretty daughter of a squire. There are two candidates for her heart, Will Belton — a generous and kind-hearted man and Captain Frederic Aylmer who seems to be more suitable pair, as he is a member of Parliament.
