The Benefits of Baked Goods
Seeing Communication Improve via Sugar and Spice
Publisher Description
There is something special about baked goods. With a keen interest in nutrition, as well as an active athlete, I try and avoid sugary carbohydrates at all costs. But, maybe that is what makes them so special.
When we eat a baked good, we often treat it as a mini-special occasion, and make time plus patience for the one we are with. We enjoy each bite, each moment, and usually share the food with a friend with a cup of tea or coffee.
Or maybe on a more logical level, it’s because they often come after a meal, when our appetite and blood sugar levels are settled, and we can focus on more than getting the food down fast enough to satisfy our growling stomachs.
Or maybe, as a particularly deep thought, there is something about the work, energy, and heart that often go into making a baked good that spreads throughout our body when we eat it. We absorb the energy put into the rolling of the dough or the glazing of the delicate icing.
Whatever the reason, I saw a pattern in my life where people would often connect, listen, and most importantly support each other over the consumption of a baked good. I saw that all the major accomplishments I made throughout my life were due to someone helping to support my decision to take a risk or help me survive a challenging situation. For many of us, we don’t know where we would be without the support of our friends and family. I hope you enjoy the stories and are also mindful when you eat a baked good. You never know how powerful the words you share really can be.
