They were the chosen ones--and the ones to be the best. Never before had the United States given so select a group of fighting men such punishing preparation. Now they were heading for their ultimate test of skill and nerve and sacrifice, in a war unlike any they or their country had ever fought before...in a land that most of America still knew nothing about...Vietnam.

Donna G. O. ,

The Berets

W.E.B. Griffin has done it again!! I could not put my iPad down easily, the content was typical of him! He captured and held my emotions. My uncle was a ranger and jumped behind enemy lines often. He also served three tours in Nam before retiring. Though he was running through a meadow to try to save his squad, he fell into a two-step snake pit but lucky for him, landed on a board used to add the snakes. That was it, he retired after twenty plus years, three major wars, several small invasions, and one beautiful German wife who bore him four kids. I live an hour north of Bragg so I have a great love for Griffin's works.

Incidentally, this uncle had a brother join the service as a Calveryman before the war and he went through WW11and Korea. He married a Brit and had four kids. He died and had a full military funeral in Arlington, casson bared casket and black horse with reversed boots. That was in 1978 (I believe). They also had two other brothers who retired from the Air Force. One married a Phillipino girl, who still lives in California.

As can be seen, I am from a very proud American family who has occupied all the countries Griffin writes about. I love his reality and attention to detail. Incidentally, this is the first book I chose to read on my new iPad. This worked beautifully!!

Keep these works coming, I am 71 but remember some of his details just like my uncles told!!! Thank you, Donna O.

woodboat ,

What a great story!

I read THE WINDS OF WAR this is the ARMY version and I can’t stop reading, a friend of mine turned me on to W.E.B. and I am hooked.

Chief Grayfeather ,

Ehh

I kept wondering when the plot was going to start until 10 pages from the end. Lots of characters with no point.
