Publisher Description

Another small-town charm gem from bestselling and award winning author, Lydia Michaels!

Patrick fell for Julie in kindergarten, when she shared her snack with him. As her childhood best friend, he adored and protected her for years, until she gave her heart to someone else. Loving Julie meant letting her choose her own path, so he did the gentlemanly thing and bowed out of her life. But after years of living away from Jasper Falls, it's finally time to return home for his brother's wedding, and neither time nor distance have changed Patrick's feelings for his first love.

Julie's secrets are about to be exposed when she returns to her hometown alone. Patrick is ready to hang his heart on the line and prove himself the best man, but the clock is ticking and he only has a short time.

Short but sweet

I have really enjoyed this series and this story was really sweet. Second chance love. The one that got away. My biggest thing I didn’t like was that it felt rushed and went so fast. I felt like there could have been so much more to this one and I would have loved getting to know the characters more. I felt the love but it also felt rushed on her part. Especially due to the circumstances. But overall I did enjoy this book and look forward to more in this series.

I received a free audio for this book and gave an honest review. I wrote this review willingly.

Small town romance

3.5 stars

The Best Man was a very fast-paced, small-town romance. Patrick is heading back to Jasper Falls for a wedding with his bestie Jo, he has crushed on Jo's twin Julie since childhood but thinks he will never get a shot. This is a journey of watching Patrick and Jo slip into a "fake relationship" only for them to learn Julie is now single. There was a multitude of events and small-town gossip to keep the story moving but at times I would have liked to see more for some situations. This was my first book in the Jasper Falls series and I think I would enjoy it even more if I had been familiar with the characters since it's not told in just dual POV.

Ashley Trumpler - did well with narration but I did struggle to keep it straight who she was narrating since there weren't any voice changes for the host of characters.

Overall - It was an enjoyable and quick listen and would try another book by the author.

Sweet story

This story will warm your heart and spirit.
I love that all the characters can be related to.
They are down to earth, their struggles are real and experienced everyday in real life.
Patrick is such a sweetheart.
He’s family oriented, he’s intelligent and he’s loyal.
He’s also the type of man who only loves once in a lifetime.
Pat has been in love with Julie before his young age really knew what love is.
Julie is smart and beautiful and she definitely turns heads.
The relationship she’s in is destructive and toxic.
But she doesn’t know anything else.
This is her first relationship and she has nothing to compare it to.
Although deep in her heart and mind she knows it isn’t right, normal nor loving.
Together Pat and Julie will embark on a journey of learning what real love is, when to step back and when to take chances.
A beautiful story of the one who got away and a chance at a second time at love.
