APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Love and loyalty collide in this striking World War II spy thriller. While recuperating from an injury sustained in an attack, British naval officer Owen Quinn meets and marries a lovely and mysterious French nurse named Nathalie. But the couple’s fairy-tale romance is soon shattered. While Owen sorts out the tactics of the D-Day invasion with a top-secret intelligence unit, Nathalie joins the French Resistance and disappears. Author Alex Gerlis keeps this mysterious tale crackling with suspense and tension as Owen discovers that his wife was not who she seemed—and neither are his own military handlers. Gerlis weaves a complex web of patriotism and deceit in which all the characters are convinced that the ends will justify the means. Rife with crosses and double crosses, The Best of Our Spies is wartime espionage fiction at its best.
