The iconic first novel from crime fiction master Raymond Chandler, featuring Philip Marlowe, the "quintessential urban private eye" (Los Angeles Times).
A dying millionaire hires private eye Philip Marlowe to handle the blackmailer of one of his two troublesome daughters, and Marlowe finds himself involved with more than extortion. Kidnapping, pornography, seduction, and murder are just a few of the complications he gets caught up in.
Chandler is one of the greats. No doubt about it.
If Raymond Chandler wrote only this book, he would still be considered a master of the genre. Tightly plotted, with not a word to spare, and an engaging storyline. It is his best book.
Only four star average?
How can this only have a four star average review?!?
Surely, this is the best of Chandlers work and the greatest of all detective novels? Certainly I'd be glad to hear of any better books!
