Publisher Description
The German population in the Eastern Territories was forced by Hitler to stay put because of his demented notion that they had to persevere. Then it was too late for any attempts to rescue the civilians. In January 1945, while the Red Army was already fighting on German soil, several hundred thousand civilians started to flee precipitously. On foot, on horse drawn carts laden with their prized possession, they risked the icy roads and extremely low temperatures, helplessly exposed to Soviet attacks. More than two million of the 12 million refugees did not survive the exodus. The war that had been started by Hitler had ricochet on the defenseless people in whose name it had been started.

Needs serious editing
I found the book interesting, however the editing was very, very poor. It appears that the original German edition was loaded to Google Translate and caused many punctuation/spelling/repetitive errors; further problems were in incorrect translation to English. I found the lacking any structure, regardless of the language barrier. It added some new info to the post-war expulsions but not a lot of new info that wasn’t covered in other books on the subject.
WWII
This book is for people who would like to know more about what happened to Ethnic Germans during n after WWII. It is a story not many people like to talk about, but it was the reality for millions of Ethnic Germans which didn't ask for a war and where peacefully living in their host countries.
