In this most well known of the "Dead Hand" series, Sinclair has written an exposé on the AP wire service, newspapers and a few magazines. He condemns them for being under the thumb of big business and inherently dishonest. Obviously, he had a little difficulty getting this particular work published or reviewed. He inevitably had to do both himself. The "Dead Hand" series includes similar works critical of journalism, education, art and literature, all of which lend themselves to his title as champion muckraker.
