The Call Before Midnight

The disconnected phone rings at 11:13. The caller is Owen Mercer's former partner, missing for eight years. He says a woman will die at midnight—and asks for Lena Hart by name.

Forensic audio restorer Lena Hart and Detective Owen Mercer follow the warning to Ravenscourt, an Art Deco apartment tower where emergency calls seem to predict disaster before it happens. At midnight, retired dispatcher Evelyn Croft is found dead beside a hidden elevator, exactly as the altered message foretold. Security logs place Owen at the scene before he arrived, Lena's own voice is hidden in the intercom, and every resident has received a different warning.

Behind Ravenscourt's walls is an abandoned experiment designed to manufacture emergencies and measure who comes running. Someone has reactivated it—and turned Caleb Shaw's disappearance into the final rehearsal.

With restoration architect Amara Singh, Lena must separate prediction from manipulation before the building reaches its last countdown and everyone becomes a witness to a murder they were trained to believe.
