“Grace Burrowes is terrific.”—JULIA QUINN, New York Times bestselling author of the Bridgerton series
A breathtaking tale of a tortured hero and the woman who helps him to heal.
Captured and tortured by the French, Christian Severn, Duke of Mercia, lost his wife, his son, and his will to live. He struggles to find a way back to the world he once knew until Gillian, Countess of Windmere, pointedly reminds him that he has a daughter who still needs him.
As Christian and Gillian spend more and more time together trying to help Margaret, who was traumatized by her mother’s death, their attraction slowly begins to grow.

This is a book more in depth on the historical and emotional side; which made it quite slow and at times, tedious. Very little action happens, much more is described or referenced; which I felt it the book longer than necessary. The two main characters talked extensively; I don’t know how the author came up with so much loooong dialogue. You certainly know the characters by the end. IMO it was an ok read, won’t read it again.
