Austin's brigade we were a detached body of mixed Louisiana and Mississippi cavalry getting our breath again after two weeks hard fighting of Grant. Grierson's raid had lately gone the entire length of the State and we had had a hard vain chase after him also.

Fast-paced tale
There are plenty of twists and turns in this tale of the American Civil War. The hero is brave and the heroine beautiful; the action continues throughout the book, and the suspense lasts to the very end. There's even a good villain.
