Customer Reviews
A book of many glaze recipes.
LawPots is correct. It is a book of glaze recipes. That is what the description says and that is what it is. If you need many formulas for many colors or if you want a particular color then this book will help you. It is many recipes from many sources not available on the web.
There are still many cookbooks for sale. The web did not make them obsolete.
You can look at the sample book to decide if you want this book.
Glazes!
You know what this book has? Glaze recipes. You want glaze recipes? Great - this book has them. Lots of them. This book uses an electronic layout that is elegant and easy to read, and is a refreshing change of pace for an electronic book.
But, a word of warning. For the most part this book is made obsolete by the Internet. If you can do a search on google, you'd probably find cone 10 and cone 5/6 glaze recipes like these freely available and posted on the various ceramics blogs and websites. You might even get pictures of the glaze and some hints on the best glaze application. Not so here. This book is pretty much just recipes. What is does not have are pictures, firing schedules, glaze application, information on the glaze ingredients, instructions on glaze testing, or line blends.
To be fair, there is a description of metal colorants (but not of encapsulated stains) and a basic explanation of how to read the glaze formulas, but if you are buying this book, you probably already know how to read the formulas and a little about colorants.
