Publisher Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A scorching forbidden love threatens to tear a rift through the Black Dagger Brotherhood in J. R. Ward’s newest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards, convicted of treason against the Blind King, is facing a brutal interrogation and torturous death at the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Yet after a life marked by cruelty and evil deeds, he accepts his soldier’s fate, his sole regret the loss of a sacred female who was never his: the Chosen Layla.
Layla alone knows the truth that will save Xcor’s life. But revealing his sacrifice and his hidden heritage will expose them both and destroy everything Layla holds dear—even her role of mother to her precious young. Torn between love and loyalty, she must summon the courage to stand up against the only family she has for the only man she will ever love. Yet even if Xcor is somehow granted a reprieve, he and Layla would have to confront a graver challenge: bridging the chasm that divides their worlds without paving the way for a future of even greater war, desolation, and death.
As a dangerous old enemy returns to Caldwell, and the identity of a new deity is revealed, nothing is certain or safe in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, not even true love . . . or destinies that have long seemed set in stone.
Praise for J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series
“Utterly absorbing and deliciously erotic.”—Angela Knight
“To die for . . . I love this series!”—Suzanne Brockmann
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
J.R. Ward dedicates her 15th Black Dagger Brotherhood book to a pair of fan-favorite forbidden lovers. Vampires Xcor and Layla have been playing a dangerous game and hiding their treasonous relationship, but now Xcor has been imprisoned. Set in a dark and violent patriarchal world, The Chosen had us cheering for Layla to rescue Xcor. Fans of the series will be thrilled to see the couple reunited, but newcomers may find these books are best read in order.

Worth Waiting For
As alway problems are resolved and smoothed out, but there is always drama in-between to make the happy ending a little less pat. There was more laugh out loud parts in this story that has been missing in most of the series. I like it, and I like the emotional development of the characters. Truly a well deserved happy ending.
Disappointing
So it took me 4 months to finish this book and even that was a struggle. I swear I could not understand anyone’s decisions. Xcor was the only good thing about this book. He is the only reason this book is getting 3 Stars. The main thing that upset me about this book is the complete personality switch in Qhuinn. This book made me hate him a little and I can not forgive the author making me hate one of my favorite characters. The flashbacks were the only parts I liked.
A Review
I've waited and waited for this installment and I was not disappointed. The Warden always delivers. Layla has been one of my favorite females since she showed up way back in the old days, and her story made me feel so much.
I can't wait for The Thief!!
