The Colonel's Dream

The Colonel’s Dream is a novel written by the African-American author Charles W. Chesnutt. Doubleday, Page, & Co. published the novel in 1905. The main setting of the novel is post-Civil War in the southern town of Clarendon, North Carolina. However, the urban setting of New York City is also featured briefly in the novel. The Colonel’s Dream portrays the continuing oppression and racial violence prominent in the South even after the Civil War.
