Publisher Description
"The Color Inside" is a story about race, black and white thinking, and perception. Originally, it was conceived as a project for my 7th and 8th grade students. They were to write and illustrate an original poem about race using colorized black and white photographs. I created the book as a model. Unfortunately, my images were not exactly model-like. So, I had a former student of mine and a brilliant artist, Zarouhie Abdalian, recreate them. The book is meant to be a springboard for discussion: How do we really see the world How do we react to differences What can artists and educators do to combat racism Etc. All proceeds will go to support New Schools for New Orleans.
