Publisher Description
The Comedy of Errors is one of William Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, believed to have been written in the late 16th century, likely around 1594 or 1595. It is one of his shortest and most farcical plays, relying heavily on mistaken identities, wordplay, and physical humor. The play is based on Plautus' (Roman playwright) work, "Menaechmi", but Shakespeare expands on the original material, adding layers of confusion and comedy. The play’s plot revolves around two sets of identical twins—Antipholus and Dromio—who were separated at birth and, unbeknownst to each other, end up in the same town, leading to a series of mistaken identities, comedic mishaps, and misunderstandings.
