Descripción editorial

Edgar Allan Poe was an American author and poet who is considered a central figure in American Romanticism. Born in Boston in 1809, Poe spent most of his life struggling with poverty and addiction. Despite these challenges, he left a lasting mark on American literature with his dark and macabre works. Poe is best known for his tales of mystery and horror, such as "The Raven," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Fall of the House of Usher." These stories often explore themes of death, madness, and the supernatural, and they are characterized by their vivid descriptions, eerie atmosphere, and psychological complexity. Poe's writing is also credited with pioneering the modern detective story.

In addition to his short stories, Poe also wrote poetry. His most famous poem, "The Raven," was first published in 1845 and tells the story of a man haunted by a mysterious bird. The poem's haunting refrain of "nevermore" has become one of the most famous lines in American literature, and its influence can be seen in popular culture to this day. Poe's poetry, like his prose, often explores themes of death, despair, and the unknown. His writing is notable for its rich imagery, musical language, and emotional intensity.

Despite his literary success, Poe struggled with personal and financial problems throughout his life. He worked as an editor for various literary magazines but often clashed with his employers and colleagues. His personal life was also marked by tragedy: his mother died when he was young, and his wife Virginia died of tuberculosis at the age of 24. Poe himself died under mysterious circumstances in 1849 at the age of 40. Despite these challenges, Poe's legacy continues to influence and inspire writers and readers alike. His contributions to American literature have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, and his influence can be seen in the works of many modern writers.

Not the complete works

This is supposed to be the complete works but in the poetry section they DO NOT have the Raven or any of his most popular poems.

Too much unnecessary filler

Book does indeed contain a very complete catalogue of Poe’s works- ranging from the famous to obscure letters and notes to associates - but it is filled with many unneeded biographies. Many of the latter are rather old and are not always the most accurate; and often one contradicts another. One can pretty much avoid all of those and still get a good grasp of Poe as an individual
