Publisher Description

The Count of Monte Cristo: Leclère, a supporter of the exiled Napoléon I, found himself dying at sea and charged Edmond Dantès  to deliver two objects: a package to General Bertrand (exiled with Napoleon Bonaparte on Elba), and a letter from Elba to an unknown man in Paris. Dantès was set up by two conspirators and sentenced by the judge. Abbé Faria made friends with him in the jail, gave him an extensive education in language, culture, and tells him the location of a treasure on the island of Monte Cristo.  Dantès broke jail and found the treasure. He named himself the Count of Monte Cristo, planned carefully to repay the good and revenge the evil. The story is a representative work of romanticism.
