American novelist Winston Churchill (not to be confused with the British prime minister) wrote this voluminous historical novel on the American Civil War that was a bestseller in America in 1901. The novel is set in the years leading up to the first battles of the U.S. Civil War, mostly in the divided state of Missouri. A table of contents is included.
