The Cuban Lightning: The Zipper

In 1988, Dr. Julio Antonio del Marmol is approached with the most audacious and daring mission of his career: agents of US intelligence will provide him with the printing presses, paper and magnetic ink from the US Treasury, and the plates to copy, set him up in a warehouse in Santa Ana, California, and from there print clone copies of the money so desperately needed to oppose the Communist fires raging in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Panama! So successful is this operation that intelligence forces are also able to engineer the tearing down of the Berlin Wall and the economic collapse of the Soviet Union.

Julio Antonio, however, is unable to savor the victory. Just in the midst of shutting everything down and getting out of the country for an extended period, he receives a call from one of his occasional employees—not a close member of the team, just someone hired to perform odd jobs. In desperate need of money, Julio Antonio makes a fatal mistake in judgment. Unable to take the time to go to the bank to withdraw money, he gives the man some of the leftovers that were being burned—the rejects of the operation. Completely betraying Julio Antonio's trust, the man goes on a shopping spree, drawing the attention of several law enforcement agencies, including the United States Secret Service: none of whom are aware of the operation that has just concluded.
