Blackwood is an elite university where ancient traditions are taken very seriously—and where the bottom forty percent of every class is quietly fed to the faculty.

When scholarship student Sam Vance arrives at the centuries-old academy, he expects difficult exams, ruthless competition, and the usual misery of elite academia. He does not expect to watch a brilliant student get devoured because his grades are statistically inconvenient.
