Clients of a string of psychiatrists, and in some cases the doctors themselves, appear to commit sins such as murder and adultery, but it is clear early on who the real perpetrator is in this fast-paced horror-movie fodder. The "Devil" makes them do it until a priest who covers his bases with traditional rituals as well as garlic helps a loyal wife queer the deal. Frequently "hearts pound" and characters "roll their eyes," "roaring" over things that are not terribly funny. Even so, this preposterous, easy-reading yarn from the author of The Devil's Advocate will hold the interest of many readers, at least until it dissolves into a semi-religious tract.
