Too much fluff . . .
I like the Feist universe, as most readers do. However this 3-book series could easily have been contained within 1 book. None of the Midkemia books are (really) stand alone stories. All of them require some understanding of what came first. The vast majority of this series is filler. Every page seems to have a reference to the past which takes 3 more pages to explain that which the readers already know. The entirety of life on the Dasati home world is redundant as every facet of Dasati life is explained in microscopic detail when Pug is preparing to go there. Also, there are too many places to reference where this hyper-detailed “color” is described over 15 or 20 pages with zero character interaction. Too much “color” and not enough plot. I eventually had to skip EVERYTHING that took place on the Dasati world (prior to Pigs arrival), plus everything that didn’t involve character interaction and dialog in Pug’s preparation to traveling to that world, and I didn’t feel I missed anything. It’s a hard read.
