A brilliantly written second installment!

Since I enjoyed the first book in this series, The Witches of Blackbrook, I was pretty sure that I'd enjoy this book too and I was not disappointed!
One of the problems I had with the first book was that we really didn't learn much about the sisters. This book addressed that issue by allowing us to learn more about the eldest sister, Trina, and one of her past lives. Thawer's attention to detail really shines as we follow the sisters into Trina's past to reveal Ann's plot to destroy the sisters; the combination of Trina's history and the masterfully built setting weaves a compelling story that readers will find entrancing.
Another aspect of the book that I found intriguing was how Thawer effortlessly demonstrated the similarities and differences of witchcraft and Native American spiritualism. It was subtle but I thought it added a fascinating twist to a plot that was already amazing. Thawer continues to demonstrate her knowledge and respect of the Craft and herbalism in this book. This is something that many books in the genre fail to do convincingly; however, it comes across as second nature to Thawer.
The Daughters of Maine is a brilliantly written second installment to a series that promises to be nothing short of amazing. I am definitely looking forward to the release of the third book!
