Publisher Description
Abigail Summers, dressmaker in life and brilliant sleuth in death, has solved her own murder. Now, she has the murder of blackmailer Dora Bream to unravel, with the help of the other spirits.
When her friend, psychic medium Hayley Moon, is arrested for the murder of a fake clairvoyant, and there is a poisoning at the local pub quiz, Abigail has to work out if the cases are connected. This is just one of the mysterious cases for the newly found Deadly Detective Agency, aided by Hayley and her husband, PC Tom Bennett.
Set in the small village of Becklesfield, the second book in Ann Parker's Abigail Summers Cozy Mysteries weaves together suspense, humour and a touch of the paranormal.
Customer Reviews
Lots of murder and blackmail
Hayley is a psychic and can see dead people. A new couple comes into town and the woman claims she is the one who helps the police. Her husband stole some items and she informs the police where they can be found then is murdered. Lots of twists and turns. You will definitely enjoy this book.
An Engaging Story Undermined by Imbalanced Character Descriptions
While I enjoyed the books overall, I found the repeated emphasis on the one Black main character perplexing. In the first book, I noticed it and was somewhat unsettled, but I continued reading, hoping for a broader approach. Now, in the second book, this focus is again highlighted, which detracts from the otherwise compelling story. The attempt at inclusivity feels forced and falls short. A more balanced approach—either describing all characters with the same level of detail or omitting these distinctions altogether—would greatly improve the narrative.
