Publisher Description
The Deferred Dream is a collection of poems that attempts to answer that age-old question from the perspective of a young African-American in this 21st Century America.
From the viewpoint of 24 year old college student Terrence Dixon, "The Deferred Dream" is an up close and personal ride through the mind of a young black man identifying with the complexities of a world far greater than the public housing he escaped. Away at college he learns the ways of the world, the way of his country, and his place in it. He captures the gravity of a cancerous upbringing, the shrewd reality of an American Dream dissolved, and the audacity of a nation’s blatant disregard for its youth.

This was an AMAZING read. I recommend it to everyone!
I have to say, this book of poetry is perfect for the things happening during these days in times. I know there have been many books of poetry but this one is probably the best since I came across Langston Hughes' "Harlem". Pieces like "Pilot Of Humanity", "My America", "Awakening" and so many others I find myself quoting as I speak to the students I work with. I am working to make it a required reading when the physical copies come out.
I was also surprised to come across the opening chapters of the coming novel "The Chronicles Of Hope: A Dream Deferred" at the end of the book. Ive been left hanging and I NEED TO READ TH REST OF THE NOVEL ASAP!!!!! I can't wait for the novel! This author needs to be more known. The voice of Mr. Whitfield's work is very refreshing. I definitely recommend this to everyone! I am glad to be one of the first to have a copy of this book. It may be a reach but I believe this will be recognized as a classic in years to come.
