Teaching English abroad was always my dream. To get the chance to do it in Tokyo was more than I could’ve ever hoped for. I had every intention of enjoying the year long contract before returning home and finding a stable teaching job.

I never expected to fall in love. I also never expected to fall pregnant, but my parents have made it clear I have nowhere to go back to, and when everything crashes around me, swept in like a knight in shining armor. A modern day samurai – his honorable nature and stoicism had me agreeing to his proposal though I’d only ever known him as a student’s elder brother.

She is my brother’s teacher. As Kazuhiko’s guardian, it was my duty to know everything about her. Her gentle nature and sweet disposition drew my attention, but despite her intelligence, Beren clearly has no ability to judge character.

Claiming her as my own is dangerous. Drawing her into the underbelly of Japan, I am damning her as much as saving her when she has nowhere else to go. When she looks at me, she doesn’t just see the yakuza family head. Beren sees me, and I have no intention of letting her go.
