Publisher Description
'...a well-wrought children's story full of excitement, clever plot developments, well handled characters and a world that a child reader (as well as an adult) would be happy to return to.' Nigel Krauth, Vogel Award Winner
'A genuinely gripping story leavened by touches of humour and a delightful tracing of character and relationships...I read it first in a single sitting - couldn't put it down!...both exciting and moving.' Jen Webb, Canberra University.
Ian Sinclair finds an old, blank exercise book while sheltering from the rain in a ruined hut. That night, he dreams of the experiences of a young 19th century Cornish immigrant with local Indigenous people, and wakes to find the events of his dream written in the pages of the old book, in handwriting 'like his own, but not his own.' The dreams and writing continue and lead him, with his new friends the Farlands, into an adventure where reality seems to merge with dreams and past injustices intrude into the present, demanding to be resolved.
