The Doris Family of Lettermacaward

This book is the culmination of over twenty years of research into the history of the Doris family of Lettermacaward. The first five chapters give an overview of everything that is known about the origins of the Doris sept and its probable ancestor, an ancient Irish warrior and aristocrat who was killed in battle in the ninth century. The later chapters of the book deal with the relationship between the Doris families of Mayo and the Doris family of Lettermacaward and give an account of the different branches of the Doris or Dorans family in Ireland, Scotland and throughout the world. As the foreword says, "The history of the Doris family contains the history of Ireland in microcosm." John Doris is a writer and translator. He lives in Belfast.
