Miss Minerva Lane is a quiet, bespectacled wallflower, and she wants to keep it that way. After all, the last time she was the center of attention, it ended badly—so badly that she changed her name to escape her scandalous past. Wallflowers may not be the prettiest of blooms, but at least they don’t get trampled. So when a handsome duke comes to town, the last thing she wants is his attention.
But that is precisely what she gets.
Because Robert Blaisdell, the Duke of Clermont, is not fooled. When Minnie figures out what he’s up to, he realizes there is more to than her spectacles and her quiet ways. And he’s determined to lay her every secret bare before she can discover his. But this time, one shy miss may prove to be more than his match…

This author has a gift for wildly, improbably, perfectly romantic scenes and dialogue. If you’re looking for a story that manages to be fanciful and substantive, look no further.
Liked story because unique in that couple waited till marriage to mate & first time was not bliss or perfect. Story was entertaining. I continued to read when should have been up doing chores.
The Duchess War
I was pretty impressed with the prequel to this series, so I had high hopes for this book. Courtney Milan did not disappoint with The Duchess War. I fell in love with Robert and Minnie, and I enjoyed their interaction. I really like the intricacies in the plot, and I appreciated the author's note at the end explaining the historical aspects in the story. I know this story is set during the Victorian Age, however, at its core this is a love story. It's why I read romance novels, and Milan knows how to write a good one. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series which I've already purchased.
