The Duellists

In the preface, the author states that dueling is an ugly and vulgar act that has somehow become acceptable in polite society. He goes on to say that because it does occur in so-called polite society, under the guise of chivalry and codes of honor, it seems less abhorrent than it really is. Revenge as a form of honor and the idea of personal satisfaction through dueling are ideas he hopes to eradicate. For historians, those interested in duels, or those just looking for a period work of fiction, The Duellists offers something for everyone.
