The Dying Realm

Haunted by the mistakes of her past, one young woman struggles to rescue her friends while reconciling her shame.

Forced to return to their hometown following traumatic circumstances, four recent college graduates spend a depressing night at a local dive bar. Things go awry when they get a ride home from a mysterious driver of an oddly shaped car.

This short story was written during Short Storyathon 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is the first published work by Mt.Angel. Written in time for Halloween, this short story maintains an unrelenting somber, dark tone reminiscent of both The Twilight Zone and The Handmaid's Tale.
