When Lepidina, wife of the prefect of Vindolanda, receives the famous birthday invitation from her dear friend, Claudia, who lives some distance away at Briga, Lepidina resolves to go. But will her husband allow her to travel in such dangerous times with regular native attacks upon Roman travellers? Will Lepidina arrive safely at Briga for the party?
