Triumph of character
Even in the most challenging and difficult of conflicts and war, the human characteristics of compassion, integrity, honor, and sanctity of life may suddenly appear like a pearl in the midst of vast patch of ordinary gravel.
Fascinating Favorite!
As a history buff, I first read this for pleasure in high school. What I like is the clever way he pulls you into the story - one that is compelling and plausible, and yet entertaining. Not only that, it's technically accurate and well researched. I have read this book at least four times - and I'll read it again!
