Publisher Description
Sarah Gailey's The Echo Wife is “a trippy domestic thriller which takes the extramarital affair trope in some intriguingly weird new directions.”--Entertainment Weekly
I’m embarrassed, still, by how long it took me to notice. Everything was right there in the open, right there in front of me, but it still took me so long to see the person I had married.
It took me so long to hate him.
Martine is a genetically cloned replica made from Evelyn Caldwell’s award-winning research. She’s patient and gentle and obedient. She’s everything Evelyn swore she’d never be.
And she’s having an affair with Evelyn’s husband.
Now, the cheating bastard is dead, and both Caldwell wives have a mess to clean up.
Good thing Evelyn Caldwell is used to getting her hands dirty.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This creepy, exhilarating science fiction outing from Gailey (Magic for Liars) dissects an unconventional affair that violates both a couple's marriage vows and scientific integrity. Dr. Evelyn Caldwell is startled to discover that her husband, Nathan, has been seeing another woman and even more shocked to learn that the other woman is a clone of Evelyn herself. Nathan created Martine to be everything Evelyn isn't: attentive, submissive, and family-oriented. Adding insult to injury, Nathan used Evelyn's own research to do so. An explosive confrontation among the three ends in Nathan's murder, leaving Evelyn and Martine forced to work together to cover up the crime. It's a situation that is not entirely unfamiliar for Evelyn, whose troubled past is teased out bit by bit. The women slowly discover that Nathan was hiding more secrets than either of them knew, forcing Martine and Evelyn to think on their feet in order to save themselves and the odd little family they create along the way. Gailey's story unspools as a series of dark reveals that leave both the characters and the audience reeling. Readers won't want to put this one down.
Customer Reviews
Well Written
Great story. Interesting concepts. Likeable characters.
Interesting perspective
This book is technically a science fiction novel, however it is really a lot more than that.
The novel walks the reader through the impossible scenarios of affair, recovery, domestic abuse - and it does so with sharp logic. I really enjoyed reading this book.
A beautiful self-discovery journey
Sarah Gailey’s books have struck me tonally as peeking into someone’s private journal, underneath the skin. ‘Echo Wife’ has all that nakedness of self-discovery in a gorgeous and brilliantly structured genre-bending thriller.
A touching story of what it is to be human, at times sad, shocking, funny, and poignant. My latest favorite book. Gailey doesn’t disappoint.
