The Empty Jar

Three months touring Europe.

Romantic.  Dazzling.  Unforgettable.

The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way.  No one could.  No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.

Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.

It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.

One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.

Our true love story.

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told.  It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness.  It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful.  It’s a love story.  A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won't give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I've seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same.  I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

The Empty Jar

First time reading this author, a most excellent writer. I read it in one sitting, putting it down only to mop up my tears. Not an easy book to read, I kept hoping for a miracle. Beautiful love story though.

Wow, such a heart-wrenching yet beautiful novel. For many, it will be painful to read. For me it was a reminder that a hard as it is for us sometimes, God is in control and His will be done! We all have hope in this life and the afterlife!

Matters to me in a Blaze of Glory in a jar of fireflies.

Told in alternating POV's by Nate and Helena a.k.a. Lena. I am so thankful that Michelle chose to share both POV's because I desperately needed to read the thoughts going on in both their minds.
Nate and Lena are married and have been for sixteen years. Lena was a nurse and Nate worked at the bank. Nate quit his job so they could travel Europe for the next three months.
Supporting character: Nissa
Main characters: Lena and Nate
I can feel the true emotions in the selective words chosen to describe the scenes. It's touching my heart and blossoming my emotions.
Lena has suffered the loss of both her parents and a younger sister. She is no stranger to death. Working in the cancer center introduced her to many tragedies. Lena had an inner strength that she carried on her shoulders. The only burden she did not carry was her undying love, support, and compassion for her husband.
It's sweet how two people reminisce on their shared lives together. It's bittersweet the memories that surface during troubling times. When time is running out we race through the time we have left trying to cram everything in that we wanted to share together.
I have read a few of Michelle's books, but this one stands out as the most emotionally driven. It's a standalone story. It's written from the heart as a dedication to her father. Her father was the inspiration behind some of the scenes that unfolded in this story. The story felt personal. Michelle described every detail illustrating every image beautifully.

I love the support and comfort these characters have for one another. It's refreshing and therapeutic reading about characters whom have a strong bond.
Sacrifice. Hope. Survival.
The story's written with awareness and conviction. Michelle gave a heartfelt depiction of hope in this tragic occurrence of fate. Michelle held my heart all through this journey with eloquent words.

#Some things are not meant to be when fate has other plans.
#I love you. Today. Tomorrow. Always. #Blaze of glory. #Lightning bugs/fireflies.
